Adult Reflection and Discussion Questions
Middle School - In Person Follow Up
In Class:
This month, our focus was on goodness and the call to holiness as we began exploring our year-long theme, “Be Transformed.” Throughout this year, our teachings will be centered on Catholic morality and how allowing Christ to transform our hearts shapes the way we live, make choices, and treat others. We also got to know St. Pier Giorgio Frassati and learned how his faith, joy, and love for others inspired him to live out his call to holiness in the ordinary moments of everyday life!
Conversation Starter Questions:
What do you think “being holy” should look like in your everyday life—with friends, at school, or at home?
St Pier Giorgio lived a simple yet holy life! What simple thing could you do each day this week to grow closer to Jesus?
What do you think charity means? How do you think we can act more charitably as a family?
Bonus Videos:
Elementary - In Person Follow Up
K - 1 : Sunday AM
K - 1 : Wednesday PM
During class ... we heard the parable about the Vine and the Branches. The children made their own Vine and Branches artwork and talked about Jesus as the vine and they are the branches.
“I am the vine and you are the branches. If you remain in me, you will bear much fruit, but apart from me, you can do nothing.” - John 15: 5
Things to discuss with your kids … Who is the vine? Who are the branches? What are some ways to stay connected to the vine (Jesus)? If we stay connected to Jesus, what kind of “fruit” will we bear?
2 - 4 : Sunday AM
2 - 3 : Wednesday PM
During class ... we read the story of Peppe the Lamplighter by Elisa Bartone and used it to discuss virtues. We learned these three main points
A virtue is a power and a tendency to do what is good
Virtues help us to live holy lives and become more like God.
Virtues are expressed through our bodily actions.
Things to discuss with your kids … Several different virtues were discussed (love, fortitude, patience, humility, kindness, generosity, and obedience). Ask them to define a few of those AND which one they would like to grow in.
5 - 6 : Sunday AM
4 - 5 : Wednesday PM
During class ... we heard about St. Pier Giorgio Frassati and how he was called “The Man of the Beatitudes.” By practicing the Beatitudes, he grew in love of God and others and grew in virtue. We talked about the Cardinal Virtues and how “cardinal” means “hinge.” They’re called the Cardinal virtues because they help us open the door to heaven.
Things to discuss with your kids … What are the four Cardinal Virtues? Which cardinal virtue did they consider more deeply with the virtue scenarios activity in class? Which one of the four cardinal virtues do they want to grow in at this time?
